We organize a lot of our lives through money, and the current systems are pretty messed up, in that they often do not encourage real value as much as they could (e.g., an oil spill is accounted as a net plus to the economy (or at least the GDP), since so much money changes hands to clean it up, replace/repair the broken ship/equipment, etc. Redefining Progress develops more whole indicators for how we're doing)
